ETOP- Environmental Technology Opportunities Portal:
The full form of ETOP is the Environmental Technology Opportunities Portal. It is a website. It is designed to present programs that encourage the development of new profitable environmental technologies. It is an organization based on education. It focuses on job competencies and workplace skills. It is a joint national work/management program. It improves the relationship between the Union and the Company. It focuses on job security and increases productivity through education and training. ETOP, Inc. is a joint labor / managerial education and training program. Transmits information on EPA’s existing environmental technologies for the treatment and control of air, water, and waste. Its mission is to provide education and job training to employers represented by IBEW to improve individual employability and improve employer productivity.
To achieve its mission, it applies some fundamental values to all its corporate activities, which are detailed below:
History: ETOP is a joint work/management program that was negotiated in 1986 between the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and AT&T, now Lucent Technologies, to provide employees represented by IBEW with education and training opportunities. To carry out this mission, the ETOP organization was established. It is governed by a Board of Directors and professionally managed by two Executive Co-Directors. In 2000, ETOP revised its bylaws to become a multi-employer organization. IBEW supported ETOP as the training program chosen for IBEW manufacturing members in September 2001.
Its quality: ETOP aims to maintain high standards and wants to have a positive impact on continuing education by maintaining a strong commitment to quality for sustenance and the advancement of excellence in the work environment to be informative.
Its contribution to learning: ETOP’s relentless effort is to improve its operations by seeking continuous evaluation. For the purpose, it collects information to improve its operation and support teamwork and provides learning opportunities for its staff and collaborating organizations. Work with its members to promote an environment that improves the acquisition of learning and skills. In order to improve learning, ETOP programs are carried out in situ in improved learning centers.
Workers do not need to waste their time traveling to distant places, which is quite inconvenient. These learning centers include classroom environments; individual study carts equipped with a computer; and private areas for professional and related guidance. It has established learning centers in the manufacturing facilities of the participating employers’ organizations. These centers are generally adjacent to the production area. The ease of access increases the use of the center. The services provided at the center range from educational advice, professional development advice and computer training to on-site credit courses, exam preparation, workplace skills and preparation for General Education Diplomas (GED).
Its services: ETOP has decided to commit to providing excellent services to its member organizations maintaining excellent relationships that respond and are flexible to the requirements, needs, and interests of the industry.
Its Local Joint Committees: The local joint ETOP committee is an advisory body that functions as ambassadors for ETOP programs. At each location, there is a separate Local Joint Committee established. It consists of the equitable participation of the Union and the Administration. The Joint Local Committee works closely with ETOP staff, as well as with the National Office to improve the scope and support structure for the ETOP Learning Center. Their tasks are to promote lifelong learning and encourage participation in ETOP programs.
Its collaboration: ETOP works simultaneously with the other joint labor-management organizations and is committed to the livelihood and advancement of learning in the workplace. In addition, ETOP’s sister concerns include other organizations, which are also committed to cumulative learning, which include professional organizations and higher education institutes at the local, state, regional, national and international levels that collaborate to advance learning in the Workplace.
